Happy Mother's Day! How did it come about?

Mother's Day is an important date celebrated in many countries worldwide. However, Mother's Day doesn't commemorate on the same date in different countries. Brazil and the USA celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May. Mother's Day recognizes mothers, motherhood, and maternal bonds.

It's a unique date for all mothers. This day sons and daughters show how much they appreciate their mothers.

This year the celebration was slightly different due to the pandemic. Even most elderly took the vaccine, most sons and daughters not yet, so they wore masks to protect the loved ones from the Coronavirus.

Mother's Day, like other holidays, back to the time of the ancient Greeks and Romans. Rhea was the Greek goddess of fertility and motherhood. Each spring, the celebrations for Rhea occurred. The Romans continued by celebrating Cybele, who was the mother of all their gods. Later the Christians converted it to a celebration of the Mother of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary.

England celebrated a holiday named Mothering Sunday during the 1600s when many poor people in England worked as servants and lived away from their own families. Mothering Sunday was a day in the spring when the servants had received the day off to return to their home to stay with their mothers.

In the United States, Mother's Day appeared due to two women. In 1872, Julia Ward Howe, who lived in Boston, suggested the idea of Mother's Day. Another woman, Anna Jarvis, in 1908 wanted to honor her mother, who died on May 10th, so she convinced the people from her town West Virginia to celebrate all mothers. Later, Anna and other people who supported her ideas wrote letters to politicians and other important people to create Mother’s Day. In 1914 it turned into an official holiday.

Nowadays, the celebration occurs in more than 40 countries around the world.

Even the mothers are taking good positions in their professional lives, the traditional role of nurturing and caring for families remains the same.

Most mothers have double workday, working and taking care of their families, so they deserve to be recognized and a special day of celebration.

"The life basis lies with a love of a mother who gives strength with every gesture of affection."

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers. Mothers who have the mission of guiding their children to have a better future.
